Schemnitz gallery

Schemnitz is a gallery for all who think they don’t understand contemporary art and have been afraid to ask about it. Through regular exhibitions, it brings to Banská Štiavnica a selection of leading Slovak authors of paintings, drawings, and graphics.

Schemnitz is a private gallery founded in 2013. Its purpose is to map out art activities and to present the best of it to a wider public. The portfolio of cooperating artists is comprised of established artists, but the gallery also provides opportunities to the less known authors; what truly matters is the quality. Artworks are also selected based on the future increase of their value. One of the important activities of the gallery are educational events for all the age groups. It is situated in the newly renovated building of the 16th century, the so-called Senensis house. The physical space available at the gallery is not great. Even so, it has some charisma and attractiveness. It is a place where you may not only see a current exhibition and a film about the author, but also attend one of the accompanying events of the gallery. The philosophy of the gallery is to build friendly relationships amongst authors, spectators, and collectors, bridging the world of art with the everyday life.
