NOTE:
Comments on photographs:
1. View of the town from the Resla guesthouse; Old Castle (Starý zámok) and historic centre in the front, the Calvary in the back
2. View from New Castle (Nový zámok); the Jewish cemetery, tobacco factory on Dolná Street, both belfries of the Protestant and the Catholic cemeteries, the old rail station and the pasture land, on which today’s Drieňová housing estates stand, in the front
3. View from Academy. The building in the right corner is a cloister of which there are only uncovered foundations left today. This view is currently hidden by giant sequoias and the building of the former State Secondary School of Andrej Kmeť.
4. The view of the historic town and its vicinity from the tower of New Castle (Nový zámok) is unique. It has to be. New Castle (Nový zámok) served as the observation tower with non-stop guard keeping track of any danger and sending the fire and smoke signals further during the 16th century. Another such tower was located on Sitno Hill.
5. The photographer of this picture took a stroll under Paradajz Hill. Even today there is a nice observation tower with a similar view at the hiking trail.
6. The tower of Old Castle (Starý zámok) offers interesting views of the historic centre, the roofs and the towers of the St. Catherine’s Church (Kostol sv. Kataríny), the historic town hall and the Protestant Church.
